Based in Tokyo, StudyPact is a self-crowdfunded motivation platform that motivates you to study by putting your money at stake.
Luxola is a Singapore-based cosmetic and skincare e-commerce startup that recently raised a funding round led by Japanese strategic corporate investor Transcosmos. Existing backer GREE Ventures is also involved in this round.
Recently the company has officially announced a new video solution, cleverly dubbed ‘Panomovie’, making it available to their clients in addition to their other panoramic photography offerings.
Indonesia’s Pictalogi wants to help bring back photo nostalgia. The site allows users to log in with their Instagram or Facebook account, and select images they would would like to print. Users are also able to upload their own photos. The photos will then be printed into rectangular or square photos, a photo album called a ‘mini book’, or a sticker book.
Uniphore is a startup from India that makes speech recognition tools for five international languages. The company have secured an undisclosed amount of funding, from the Indian Angel Network, YourNest Angel Fund, and Stata Venture Partners’ founder Ray Stata.
Gunosy is a popular Japanese news reader app that aims to help user digest all of the day’s news in three minutes, with a main revenue stream coming from display advertisements. Recently, it was revealed that the startup has closed a funding round led by local telco KDDI.
Squrce is a Malaysia-based games developer that created the mobile game Taijitu. The idea of the game is to move around the shapes so that colors are mirrored on both sides of the white dividing line. The self-funded startup aims to make more such minimalist apps – not just games.
Berry Kitchen is an online catering service in Indonesia which offers daily catering services as well as bentos for people to order online.
The startup announced this week that it received seed funding from ANGIN, the female-oriented angel network fund run by Global Entrepreneurship Program Indonesia (GEPI). Berry Kitchen offers daily catering services as well as bentos for people to order online.
9. Capy | Japan
Capy is a Tokyo-based startup that is disrupting online Captcha. Rather than using slanted or blurred words as Captcha, Capy creates simple puzzles to help identify if a user is a real human or a bot.
10. Juwai | China
Juwai – which means “home overseas”, is an online property marketplace aimed at people in China looking to buy real estate overseas.
11. Topica | Vietnam
Founded in 2008, Topica is one of Vietnam’s most successful online learning platforms that offers certification online, coordinates with colleges to offer online learning support, and also runs the Founder’s Institute annual incubator program. Now it’s experimenting with using Google Glass to teach students English.
Driving Curve is an app that measures a driver’s performance on the road by using the iPhone’s built-in GPS sensors and the team’s own algorithms to measure and track data points like abrupt acceleration, hard braking, the average speed of a trip, and other basic measurements.
The app also includes reward badges, global leaderboards, and social features that let users compare their stats with Facebook friends.
Let’s Fold is a new origami-themed mobile app developed by South Korea-based FiveThirty. Unlike other origami-themed apps that show people how to do the ancient craft, Let’s Fold is a social game wherein players have to match a shape using a set number of folds.
14. Meican | China
Launched in 2011, China-based Meican is an online food ordering site that has secured series B funding to help it grow and expand into more cities across China. The company takes a commission from restaurants on each order, making it free to use for customers.
15. DataRPM | India
DataRPM is a big data startup from India that provides plug-and-play analytics software including natural language query answering and search interface, automatic data modeling from disparate sources, exploratory data analysis, ad-hoc reports and dashboards, in-place collaboration, and data security.
The startup has secured Series A funding led by US-based InterWest Partners and CIT (Center for Innovative Technology) GAP Funds.
16. Quikr | India
Indian online classifieds site Quikr has secured it’s the fifth major funding round – and the seventh in total. The startup’s online platform features listings for things like jobs and services as well as items posted for sale.
Launched in February this year, Tembusu Terminals, a Singapore-based startup producing locally developed Bitcoin vending machines, has raised a seed funding round from undisclosed Singaporean investors in exchange for a 5.8 percent equity stake.
Vietnam’s magazine app Greelane comes from Vinapo, a company which also focuses on its ebook platform, Alezaa. The app places an emphasis on design in mobile apps and products, which is a growing trend in Vietnam, and allows users to pay for subscriptions by credit card or via local ATMs.
19. Codoon | China
Started in 2010, China’s top wearable tech startup and creator of Codoon Smartband S, Codoon, has received RMB 60 million – nearly $10 million – in series A funding led by CITIC Capital.
